Adventures in Geekery
E3 is this week, the videogame geek’s equivalent to Macworld or something. Today at noon eastern, Nintendo goes up to bat, 2 pm, Sony makes their presentation.
Yesterday, Microsoft discussed all things XBox and Zune (yes, it still exists), and they set the bar pretty damn high:
- Motion control camera. This threatens to make the Wii irrelevant, as it seems to do all of the things that Nintendo has done PLUS more, and without a controller. I can’t even wrap my head around it, but people are already making tons of Terminator and Minority Report jokes. That’s how crazy this thing is.
- Metal Gear Solid franchise comes to 360 with a game featuring Raiden
- Final Fantasy XIII comes out early next year
- Crackdown 2 is announced
- Halo: Reach (prequel) is announced
- Forza 3, Halo 3: ODST, Left 4 Dead 2 all out this year
- Arcade games look great, with Marvel vs. Capcom 2, a high-res update to Secrets of Monkey Island, a NEW Monkey Island game, Shadow Complex (neat Contra/Metroid hybrid from Epic), Splosion Man, TMNT: Turtles in Time HD remake, and some sort of Kart racer out this year.
- Full 360 games will be downloadable soon.
Main complaint from fans is too many sequels, which… yeah. Big names get big press, hopefully they focus on some new IPs.
