It’s denial, okay?
Reserve that rage for those in charge who failed to do their job.
People are going to defend their heroes. It’s human. They didn’t believe Paterno could do something wrong. They didn’t think Chris Brown could possibly be at fault. I’ve seen this happen several times and there’s a common thread across the board. It’s sometimes awful to watch, but I can’t spend that much time berating people who can’t process this tragedy properly.
I have no idea what I’d do if one of my heroes let me down. I’d probably be defensive, in denial, and heartbroken. And I’d hope that people around me would afford me a little bit of space to figure my shit out instead of rubbing my face in the mud.
