“An art form should be judged by its best example, not its worst. Jackson Pollock fans wouldn’t abide his work being shellacked as pretentious horseshit simply because most abstract expressionism is pretentious horseshit. Fans of Entombed and Dismember should remain similarly unbending.”
I’m completely excited to read this article.  My college roommate (I promise this is the last college story today) was really into this stuff, despite being a pretty nice guy in general.  It became such a source of comedy that during weightlifting sessions, one guy would pretend to be Ace Ventura during that one scene in the club (Cannibal Corpse was the name of the band, IIRC), while I would cause chaos with the equipment.
The band we were listening to was Cryptopsy, and the song was “Cold Heart, Warm Blood”.  The song is still on my iPod, if I need a laugh.
