Obviously, you shouldn’t read the link if you haven’t seen this Thursday’s episode.
I did so last night, and as is the case with many of the episodes, I left feeling satisfied that I understood the implications from the first random scene to the BOOM at the end with the text “LOST”. Then I read Doc Jensen’s articles, and I’m immediately unhappy with myself, the same way I feel when I try to get into website coding. Dizziness ensues, and I crawl into bed and go to sleep.
Okay, the last part is a minor exaggeration, but the details and literary references that Doc comes up with is mindboggling. We place an inordinate amount of focus on details like “The Map”, which now seem minor, where, in fact, we should probably be breaking into the houses of the writers so we can see their library of books. The way Doc talks about it, there wouldn’t be enough time in the world to read all of the literature that inspires Lost (supposedly).
It’s nice to see this, because it does inspire people to catch up on some good books they may have missed. But it’s crazy!
BTW, in an unrelated note, I enjoy seeing character actors swapping parts in my favorite shows, but I found myself mixed up, thinking that the woman on the flight had appeared earlier somewhere in Lost. No… she was one of the supervisors on 24. IIRC, she disappeared rather awkwardly, because her mentally disabled child was having some issues. Then again, this is 24, so awkward things happen sometimes.
