My favorite type of libertarian

There’s a group of people who are aghast at the idea of mandatory seatbelt laws.  This kills me.  I’m reminded of the time Jakob Lodwick took a picture of a cab line at one of the NYC airports and blamed the government for the inefficiency of it all.

In both cases, they take a philosophy that might have some positive benefits and obsess over it so much that they end up spouting nonsense about matters without thinking of the larger picture.  One reason why we have these mandatory laws?  It’s not all because the government wants to protect Mr. No-Seatbelt Guy, it wants to protect the guy in the other car who will be subjected to a 200 pound flying missile because some jackass forgot to buckle up.
